The house, comprised of three bedrooms and two bathrooms, wasn’t huge, but it was large enough for us. Peace washed over me as we pottered in the garden, took walks along the beach, and cuddled on the back deck under the expanse of sky at night. Already I wanted to move there, and forget about our jobs back in Brisbane.

Aaron and I crunched numbers, spent time praying over God’s will, and by the time Sunday afternoon rolled around, we decided to make an offer.

I found it difficult to contain my excitement over the course of the following week. The thought of a holiday house had never crossed my mind before, and it sounded so extravagant! I was itching to tell Renae, but Aaron suggested we keep quiet about the house in case our offer fell through.

Late Friday afternoon, my phone rang.

“Are you sitting down?”

“What’s up?” I hooked my foot under my chair and slid it back from the desk.

“Congratulations, honey! We’re the owners of a new home!”

I let out a small scream, but quickly slapped my hand over my mouth as curious co-workers glanced my way. We have a beach house! I tapped my feet up and down on the ground in excitement.

“Oh, Aaron, I am so happy!”

“Me too! Shall we celebrate tonight? I’ll make a dinner reservation.”

“Don’t be too extravagant,” I said cheekily. “We have two mortgages now, we might have to live on rice and beans for the rest of our lives.”

“Rice and beans can wait until tomorrow. One night of indulgence won’t hurt us.” His teasing voice made me smile. After ending the call, I floated about my tasks for the remainder of the day. We had a beach house!
